Keonjhar: The State vigilance department probing the Uliburu mining loot case produced an affidavit before Keonjhar District and Sessions Court claiming that main accused Deepak Gupta had allegedly mined around 45.22 lakh MT iron ore from the Uliburu reserve forest illegally and has gained Rs 893.67  crore profit between 2003-2010.
 
The iron ores were not only mined from the reserve forest near BK Mohanty mines but also dug from lease area of Gagdish Mishra which was withdrawn by the government earlier, the affidavit pointed out. These minerals were illegally supplied to the Deepak Gupta Steel and Power limited at Barbil, it added.
 
Gupta allegedly had smuggled 29,000 MT of minerals fetching a profit of Rs 7 crore between 2003 and 2004 while the quantity of mining material was increased gradually which reached 5,16,896 MT by 2009-10 fetching  Rs 146.43 crore. The affidavit further maintained that 13 officials of Mines and Forest department had allegedly assisted Deepak in smuggling of iron ores.
 
BK Mohanty, the original lease holder, is already behind the bars while the vigilance sleuths registered criminal cases against Gupta and his family members who are on the run for last few days, sources said.
