Dubai: The Odia Society based in the United Arab Emirates has come forward to help more than 40 Odia labourers who have been stranded in the gulf country.

According to information, more than 40 labourers from Khallikote area of Ganjam district had gone to Dubai through an agent in search of work around three months back.

However, the labourers have alleged that they have been physically harassed, denied of their wages since joining the work and have also been denied of food.

After coming to know about the plight of the labourers, the Odia Society in the UAE has contacted the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

Sources said process to extricate the stranded labourers has already been initiated.
