In an unfortunate incident, two youths died after coming in contact with an electricity wire trap. The incident took place in Kendupai Hills under the Laxmipur block of Koraput district. The two young men had gone in search of a missing cow when the mishap occurred.
The wire snare laid in the area had been connected to a live electricity line, leading to their electrocution.

What Happened
According to local sources, the duo ventured into the hilly area to locate their lost cattle. Unbeknownst to them, an illegal wire fence set up to trap wild animals had been connected to a live electric line. The moment they came into contact with it, both were fatally electrocuted.
Delayed Response Raises Anger
What has sparked outrage in the area is the alleged delay in response by authorities. Despite repeated calls, neither the police nor officials from the electricity department reached the site for several hours. The victims’ bodies reportedly lay at the spot overnight, with grieving family members keeping vigil nearby, waiting for help and official procedures to begin.
Illegal Power Traps — A Deadly Menace
Illegal electrified traps for hunting or protecting crops remain a persistent issue in Odisha’s tribal and forest regions. Such traps, though banned, continue to claim innocent lives, both human and animal, due to a lack of enforcement and awareness.
