Keonjhar: Two persons were killed and one critically injured after they fell from a height when a heavy machine which they were operating broke in an iron ore mine in Keonjhar district, police said.
 
The accident took place at the Bolani mines in Keonjhar district when three contractual labourers were operating a reclaimer machine, inspector-in-charge, Bolani police station, P K Samal said.
 
The deceased were identified as Meenajuddin Ansari (40) and Suresh Munda (25).
 
Another worker, Ignesh Khedia, who was injured, is undergoing treatment in Ispat General Hospital at Rourkela and his condition was stated to be serious.
 
Meanwhile, protesting against the incident many agitated mine workers did not allow the bodies to be handed over to their family members before adequate compensation was announced.
 
Demanding Rs 15 lakh compensation each to the next of kin of the deceased and permanent employment to a family member, the workers alleged the mishap occurred due to low grade work. They wanted announcement of proper rehabilitation measures for the victims' families, police said.
 
The protests was withdrawn following amicable settlement, Samal said, adding the situation was tense but under control and police force was deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
