Authorities have ordered administrative action and intensified the investigation into the death of a Class V student whose mutilated body was recovered from a well in Belapada village under Gania police station limits in Nayagarh district on Wednesday.
The incident has raised serious concerns over child safety and alleged negligence, prompting the suspension of two teachers and a detailed police probe.
The minor had gone missing on Tuesday after leaving school following the midday meal. After a night-long search, his body was found in a well located near his residence on Wednesday morning. The discovery sparked public outrage, with family members and villagers alleging murder and staging protests by blocking roads and demanding justice.
Teachers Placed Under Suspension
In connection with the incident, the Gania Block Education Officer (BEO) suspended two teachers of Belapada Primary School for alleged lapses in duty.
The suspended teachers have been identified as In-charge Headmistress Manisha Senapati and Assistant Teacher Sailabala Dei.
Officials said the action was taken pending a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death.
Police Recover Belongings, Examine Multiple Angles
As part of the ongoing investigation, police recovered the minor’s clothing and footwear from the same well where the body was found. Scientific and forensic teams have been deployed at the site to collect evidence and reconstruct the sequence of events.

Police said they are examining multiple angles to determine how the child reached the well and the circumstances that led to his death. Statements of locals and school authorities are also being recorded.
The situation in Belapada village remains under control, with police maintaining a strong presence as the investigation continues. Officials said further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
