Two persons killed, four injured by tuskers

Keonjhar: Two persons, including a tribal woman, were killed and four others critically injured in separate attacks by elephants in Odisha's Keonjhar district, officials said on Thursday.

A woman, identified as Mangali Munda (20), was killed and four others of the family, including her 15-day-old daughter, were injured when a wall of their house at Jamunalia near here collapsed in an attack by a tusker late last night, they said.

The injured have been admitted to the district headquarters hospital here and their condition was stated to be critical.

The jumbo also caused extensive damage to another house and destroyed huge quantity of foodgrains in the village located near Nenkadaghar, about 7 km from here.

Angry over the incident, villagers staged a road blockade on NH-215 at Nenkadaghar demanding compensation to the affected families.

In another incident, a man was killed in an elephant attack in Kaliahata area, about 100 km from here last night, forest officials said.
