Rourkela: Two directors of ORIND- a state based refractory were arrested in Kolkata in connection with alleged non-payment of employees dues and brought here today.

A Rourkela police team had gone to Kolkata and arrested Surendra Kumar Jhunjhunwala and his father Jugal Kishore Jhunjhunwala, directors of ORIND, now rechristened Shaswat International Ltd, located at Lathikata near here.

The two would be produced in court here tomorrow, the police said. The directors were arrested following a complaint lodged by some of the employees of the factory, where lock out was declared since July, police said.

About 800 regular and contractual employees of the factory had been agitating for the last seven months demanding payment of their wages of the last 15 months. The employees led by independent MLA George Tirky under the banner of "Lathikata Mazdoor Manch" had twice resorted to road blockade on NH-23. A total 224 of them, including Tirkey were arrested and subsequently released on conditional bail.

No senior official of the refractory company were available for comment. Orissa government had convened a high-level meeting at Bhubaneswar on October 19 and has called another on November 4 as it had failed.
