Two Odisha women in ‘same-sex relationship’ found hanging

Saraikela Kharsawan/Baripada: Two women from Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, who were allegedly in a relationship, were found hanging in a room at Bolayadiha under Gamharia police limits in Saraikela Kharsawan district of Jharkhand today. Both the women are reportedly from Kuliana area of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha.

According to sources, both the women allegedly hanged themselves inside the room to which they moved in recently. The relatives of both the women had reportedly filed their missing report in the nearby police stations in Mayurbhanj, informed sources.

Primary investigation by the local police revealed that the deceased women were married to each other and were living in that house for nearly a week.

The police, after receiving information about their deaths reached the spot and have sent the bodies for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway.

SK Mishra, SI, Gamharia Police Station in Jharkhand said “Both the girls were reportedly married. They were hiding from their families and staying here. We cannot say anything for sure as investigation is on. Family members said both had run away from their homes in Odisha.”

Mamata Kapur, President, Nari Shakti Samiti, Jharkhand said “We tried to find them and somehow reached their house. As we entered the room, we found them hanging from the ceiling.”
