Bargharh/Balasore: The Vigilance sleuths today conducted raids at the residence and property of Assistant Engineer of Bargarh Irrigation Department Tankadhar Meher on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A six-member team led by Bargarh Vigilance DSP Birendra Nayak simultaneously raided five places which includes Meher’s official residence, his apartment at Balaji city, his paternal house at Sargibahal in Bargarh and in-laws’ house at Ghasian village in Patnagarh.

Till last reports were filed, the raids were in progress. Officials sources said details of the seized items will be known once the raid is completed.

In another instance, officials of the vigilance department arrested a Junior Engineer (JE) of Mathasahi Electric division in Balasore, Kumar Sitha Pragyan Mohanty while he was taking bribe from a person.

As per reports, Mohanty had demanded Rs 10,000 from one Jiten Kumar Nayak to change his old electricity meter and reduce electricity bills.

However, Nayak reported the matter at Cuttack Vigilance cell and subsequently a trap was laid by the sleuths to nab Mohanty.

Mohanty was arrested while he was taking bribe Rs 5000 from Nayak yesterday from Balia at his residence in the district.
