Bhubaneswar: In yet another incident of death due to drowning, two minor girls were killed while bathing in a pond at Atri village near Baghamari of Khurda district today.

Both the deceased, who were cousins in relation to each other, have been identified as Alisha Behera (5) daughter of Ramesh Behera, and Shrabani Behera (4), daughter of Kanhei Behera of the village.

According to reports, the girls had gone out for bathing to the village pond with their grandmother early morning today, when both of them slipped deep into the water.

Though both of them were rescued by the locals and rushed to Khurda district headquarters hospital, doctors declared them dead.

Earlier, in a string of unfortunate incidents three women and three minor boys had drowned in separate places across Odisha in last two days.

Yesterday, two sisters met their watery grave while taking bath in a pond in Angul, while a two-year-old-child drowned in a rivulet in Salijanga under Raghunathpur Police limits of Jagatsighpur district. An old lady also drowned in Baitarani River in Anandpur of Keonjhar district.

On Thursday, two minor boys had drowned while taking bath in a pond at Singipur village of Balikuda block of Jagatsinghpur district.
