A two-month-old infant is battling for life after accidentally falling into a fire-filled cooking stove in Chalanti village under Jaleswar police station limits in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The tragic incident occurred late on Tuesday night at around 10 pm, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Incident Occurred During Cold Night
According to preliminary information, the family was sitting around a fireplace to keep warm due to the prevailing cold winter conditions. The child’s mother was holding the infant on her lap while tending the fire. In an unfortunate moment of inattention, the baby slipped from her lap and fell directly into the burning stove, sustaining severe burn injuries.
Child Shifted to District Headquarters Hospital
The infant, who suffered burns on more than half of the body, was initially rushed to the Basta Medical facility for immediate care. Given the seriousness of the injuries, doctors referred the child to the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment. Hospital sources said the infant remains in a critical condition and is under close medical observation.
