Paralakhemundi: A CRPF team traced two landmines under a culvert at Andhari Ghat under Adaba Police limits of Gajapati district yesterday. The bombs were later diffused by the bomb squad.

As per reports, two landmines weighing about 50 Kg were recovered by CRPF personnel while conducting a search operation after the State was put on alert following Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh yesterday. A bomb squad from Gajapati reached the spot and diffused the bombs.

The explosives were placed with an intention to disrupt the elections, informed sources.

"Two landmines weighing about 50 Kg were found under the culvert. The wire connected to the landmines is fresh. They clearly wanted to disrupt the elections," said Gajapati SP, Sara Sharma.

A high alert has been issued in Maoist-infested areas of Odisha after Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi, his driver and three personal security officers were killed yesterday in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Kuakonda area in Dantewada district of the state.
