Two killed, two injured as bike plunges into waterbody in Odisha's Nuapada

Two youths lost their lives and two others were critically injured after their motorcycle plunged into a water body near Dangaghat in Nuapada district in the early hours of the day. The incident took place between Tarbod and Hatisara villages under Komna police station limits as the group was returning from a Dhanu Yatra festival on early Thursday morning.

As per reports, the four individuals attended an annual Dhanu Yatra festival at Tarbod village, where a Star Night cultural programme was organised. After attending the event, the four friends set off for home on a single motorcycle at around 4 am. As they reached the Dangaghat area, the rider reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The motorcycle struck a nearby pole and veered off a bridge, plunging nearly 15 feet into the water body below. The water level at the spot was reportedly around 10 feet, significantly hampering any immediate attempt to escape.

Two Youths Killed, Two Others Injured

Two youths, Shobharam Hans and Harishchandra Patel, drowned and died at the spot. The other two riders, identified as Ranjit Hans and Bhagabat Majhi, were rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Their condition was stated to be stable at the time of reporting.

A local resident said, “The four friends were travelling on one motorcycle when the rider lost control. The bike hit a pole and fell into the water. Two of them died, while the other two were taken to the district hospital.”

Rescue Operation And Police Action

On receiving information, personnel from the Komna Fire Services rushed to the spot and carried out rescue operations, retrieving the bodies of the deceased along with the injured youths from the water. Komna police also reached the site shortly thereafter.

The bodies were seized and sent to the Komna Medical for post-mortem examination. Police initiated further inquiry into the circumstances leading to the accident.
