Cuttack: At least two persons were killed while as many as 15 persons were injured after a passenger bus overturned near Kajalakana in Choudwar of Cuttack district today. A massive rescue operation by Police and Fire Services personnel was launched following the mishap as several passengers were trapped inside the bus.

According to reports, the private passenger bus ‘Nilakantha’ was on its way to Cuttack from Angul when it turned turtle after skidding off on sand which was piled up on the road on account of some construction work.

Five passengers, who sustained critical injuries, have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital. As per sources, the SCB authorities have deployed additional manpower to provide immediate treatment to the injured.

“I was on the front row of the bus. I do not know what exactly happened but saw that the bus swayed to its left and overturned,” said Rudrasish Pradhan, a passenger.

P Lenka, station officer of Tangi-Choudwar Fire Station said, “After reaching the spot, we saw two persons trapped under the bus.”

"At present, four persons are undergoing treatment at the casualty wing of the hospital while two others were brought dead," informed SCB emergency officer, BN Moharana.

Moharana further informed that doctors of several departments are engaged in the treatment of the injured.

Choudwar MLA Pravat Biswal, who met the injured at SCB, informed that the State government will bear the cost of treatment of the injured passengers in the bus mishap.
