Two motorists were killed after an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed into their motorcycle on State Highway 57 near Ambapunja in Odisha’s Balasore district in the early hours of Sunday. The deceased have been identified as residents of Bag village under Kamarda police station limits.
The accident occurred around 3.00 am while the victims were returning from Jaleswar. According to preliminary information, the unknown vehicle struck the motorcycle with great force, causing both riders and the two-wheeler to plunge off a bridge along the highway.
Victims Fell From Bridge After Impact
Reports said the victims fell nearly 15 feet below the bridge following the impact. Local residents who noticed the injured men immediately alerted the police.
Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured riders to Jaleswar hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.
Probe Underway To Identify Vehicle
Police have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case. Based on preliminary findings and local accounts, it is suspected that a sand-laden truck may have hit the motorcycle and fled the scene.
Sources said sand-laden trucks frequently ply the stretch, transporting material towards West Bengal, and this angle is being examined as part of the investigation.

As part of the investigation, police have intensified their monitoring of sand-carrying trucks in the area and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to establish the sequence of events.
