Two juvenile inmates allegedly escaped from a special observation home in Odisha’s Angul district, prompting authorities to launch a search operation, police said.
According to sources, the two minors reportedly fled the facility by squeezing through a drain opening. The incident came to light after they were found missing from the premises.
One of the escaped juveniles is from the Oupada police limits in Balasore district, while the other hails from Haripur village under Tangi police limits in Cuttack district.
Escape Reported on February 14
Reports indicate that the escape took place on February 14 between 4 pm and 5 pm. At the time of the incident, all children at the observation home were reportedly playing when the two minors allegedly slipped away through the drain and managed to flee.
Following the incident, authorities carried out extensive searches in and around the facility but were unable to trace them.
Subsequently, the counsellor of the special observation home lodged a complaint at the local police station. Police have registered a case and initiated a manhunt to apprehend the absconding juveniles.

Meanwhile, security arrangements at the observation home are under review to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
