Two friends tied to poles, beaten to death in Cuttack

A brutal double murder has rocked Cuttack district after two young men were allegedly tied to poles and beaten to death inside a Poklen garage near Nirgundi under Tangi police limits.

The victims, Prashant Jena of Choudwar and Mohammed Shoaib of Bilteruan village, had left home on Tuesday saying they were heading to work at a medicine warehouse. When they failed to return, their families began searching. On Wednesday morning, locals found one body inside the garage and the other outside, both bearing severe injury marks.

Assault Under the Influence of Alcohol

Police suspect that garage staff mistook the two men for thieves due to previous theft incidents at the garage. They were allegedly taken inside, tied to poles and brutally assaulted throughout the night. Loud music was reportedly played to drown out their screams, and the attackers were under the influence of alcohol.

Police Action Underway

Tangi police, along with the Cuttack Rural Superintendent of Police, reached the spot and confirmed the case as murder. The Choudwar SDPO is leading the investigation. The garage owner and two staff members have been detained for questioning.

“Two bodies were found at the spot. The deceased are residents of Choudwar. In connection with the incident, a case/no 406 have been registered at Tangi Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated. Considering the seriousness of the case, the Choudwar SDPO will lead the investigation,” said Vineet Agarwal, Superintendent of Police, Cuttack Rural.

Speaking on the preliminary findings,he added, “Initial investigation confirms that this is a case of murder. All those involved will be interrogated, and a thorough inquiry will be conducted. A scientific team is present at the site, and various pieces of evidence and clues are being collected. Based on the evidence, strict action will be taken against the accused.”

“One shoe was found outside, while one of the bodies was inside. They were tied, there were injury marks on their bodies, and it appeared they had been dragged. This is clearly a case of murder,” said Sophia Bibi, aunt of one of the deceased.

The shocking incident has triggered widespread outrage and fear in the district. Police say key leads have emerged during interrogation, and the full truth behind the gruesome killings is expected to be revealed soon.
