Two faces of same coin called corruption

Bhubaneswar: Mahesh Prusty is a draughtsman posted in the ground water division office in the state capital under the water resources department. One might ask what is the big deal then? Mahesh Babu`s list of property despite his social recognition as a clerk has become the talk of the town, thanks to the raids conducted by the anti-corruption department.

The vigilance sleuths who were maintaining watch over Mahesh Prusty quite for some time now finally conducted simultaneous raids on his house and office today. The raids were conducted at four places. The yeilds even baffled the raiding sleuths of the vigilance department. His list of property is just awesome. Ten plots of land in prime locations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, two houses at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar and four cars including sports utility vehicles. While his movable and immovable assests run into crores, the vigilance sleuths seized Rs. 87,000 in cash from his house and several bank accounts against his own and relatives` names.Said Trinath Patel, DSP, Vigilance," From preliminary investigations and seizures we can only say that his property is worth over crores. The final assessment would reveal more details".

From Bhubaneswar to Berhampur. The story is same, that of amassing ill-gotten property. Only the name and designation is different. The vigilance sleuths raided the office and farm house of Tapan Kumar Mishra, former CEO of Southco. Two teams of the vigilance department conducted simultaneous raids on Tapan Mishra`s house at Vidyanath Nagar in Berhampur city and his farm house at Ambapua including his houses at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Preliminary reports said that Tapan Mishra`s total disproportionate assets too would run into crores like that of Mahesh Prusty.

Crorepati connections notwithstanding there is a big difference the two. While Mahesh Prusty is a clerk grade government employee, Tapan Mishar belongs to the officer grade. Yet charges are same. That of amassing property disproportionate to known sources of their incomes.
