Jajpur: Two cowherd boys were injured when a crude bomb exploded at Bantala under Korei police station of Odisha`s Jajpur district today, police said. The boys stumbled upon a polythene packet containing some unknown articles lying by the side of a railway line passing through the area.

Out of curiosity, the duo went to a distance, opened the packets and handled the goods contained in it during which one of the objects inside the bag had exploded, Inspector-In -Charge (IIC), Korei police station, B N Samal said. "The bag contained four crude bombs and one of them exploded as the boys had tried to open it", Samal said.

The explosives were believed to have been abandoned by dacoits to use it for criminal activities but was spotted by the cowherd boys, he said. The two, who sustained injury on chest and hands, were admitted to the nearby hospital which referred them to the SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack, he said adding inquiry into the incident was on.
