Berhampur: Two persons, stated to be supporters of ruling BJD, were gunned down at the bus-stand at Polasara, about 45 km from here, in Ganjam district on Tuesday evening, police said.

Meghanad Sahu (30) of Polasara and Amulya Sethi (35) of Chadheyapada near Polasara, both supporters of BJD and close associates of local MLA Niranjan Pradhan, were shot at by atleast four motor-cycle borne miscreants, police sources said.

Previous enmity is suspected to be the reason, sources said adding SP (Ganjam) Rajesh Pandit went to the spot.

Panic gripped the block headquarters town after the incident, with shops and business establishments downing shutters. Hundreds of people then gheraoed the police station.

Polasara MLA Niranjan Pradhan rushed from Bhubaneswar demanded strong action against the assailants.
