Cuttack: Two separate murder incidents have rocked the silver city today when a local puja committee secretary was shot dead at Seikh Bazar area and another man was hacked to death at Kalyani Nagar here on Sunday morning.
 
Seikh Bazar puja committee secretary Kesab Behera was coming out of his home towards a local market while unidentified assailants opened fire leaving him critically injured. Sustaining seven bullet injuries, Kesab was rushed to SCB medical college and hospital and later shifted to a private hospital. However, he succumbed to the bullet injuries there.

Lalbag police seized the body and is investigating the case after registering a case.
 
In a separate incident, another businessman of Kalyani Nagar area was hacked with a dagger from behind when he was coming towards Link Road area. The victim, identified as Maheswar Jena of Duladeipur, was admitted to SCB hospital where he was declared dead.
 
Madhupatna police arrested the accused only after two hours of the incident. Police seized the body for postmortem.
 
While the silver city was recuperating from these incidents, as many as 20 bike-borne miscreants hurled three bombs at a dilapidated house near Rovers Street (Balu Bazar-Chandi Mandir road) in the evening and rancacked a tea-stall.
 
According to eyewitnesses, they were looking for someone and failed to find him at the place.
 
"Before we could understand what is happening around us, they had fled the spot," a local said.
