Twelve persons die each day in road accidents in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Answering to a query raised by BJP MLA Dillip Ray, Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu said that a total of 43,312 persons lost their lives between 2008 and 2018 – on an average of 12 persons per day.
“As many as 43,312 persons have lost their lives in road accidents from the year 2008 till September 2018. Moreover, 61,884 people were critically injured while 57,937 persons sustained minor injuries in such accidents,” Sahu informed the Assembly.
“While 82,762 licences were cancelled owing to reckless driving, as many as 54,501 cases have been registered for reckless driving in the State. Moreover, Rs 4.10 crore has been collected from violators during the said period,” Sahu informed the house.
