According to sources, the sick elephant is unable to move freely from one place to another. It is said that the animal has sustained a deep injury on its left hind leg, which is believed to be affecting its movement. Locals expressed fear that the elephant’s condition could worsen if immediate medical attention is not provided.

However, the forest department has denied reports of any serious injury.

Narsinghpur East Forest Range Officer Kulesh Sahu stated that the movement of the tusker is being closely monitored by forest officials and that the situation is under control. He added that the department is keeping a constant watch on the elephant’s route and health condition.

Forest officials have urged people to remain calm and avoid spreading panic, assuring that necessary steps will be taken if the animal’s condition deteriorates.

“A claim that the elephant is unwell is not correct. The pachyderm is quite well, and at times it is going to Hindol and Seramunda and coming back again. The animal has been nicknamed Gania,” the forest officer said when contacted.

Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a sick elephant roaming in Chandaka forest on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar was successfully tranquilised on December 20 last year after a two-day-long operation, following which a team of veterinarians carried out detailed medical treatment.
