A tuition teacher was critically injured after being shot at by unidentified miscreants while he was returning home in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Mankadapal village under Badasahi police station limits.

As per reports, the victim, identified as Sanjay Kumar Nayak of Mankadapal village, sustained a bullet injury near his abdomen and was initially admitted to Baripada Medical College. Due to excessive bleeding and his critical condition, he was later referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after receiving primary treatment. 

Sanjay, who supports his family with the profession of a tuition teacher, was returning home when he stopped on the road where a tree branch had fallen. At that moment, miscreants opened fire, firing two rounds of bullets before fleeing the scene, reportedly.

Family’s Allegation of Dispute

According to reports, Sanjay’s wife alleged that she recently secured employment at a local Anganwadi Centre, leading to disputes with certain individuals who did not get the job. She claimed that those individuals might have attacked her husband out of enmity. Police suspect that the incident may have been the result of a previous rivalry.

Police Investigation Underway

The presence of the tree branch blocking the road and the timing of the attack have raised questions over whether the shooting was premeditated. Police from Badasahi and Town police stations have recorded the teacher's statements at the hospital and are conducting further investigation, sources said.

Concerns Over Illegal Firearms

Locals have expressed concerns about how the assailants obtained the firearm and ammunition. Fears have also grown in the area that the illegal circulation of weapons could lead to more such incidents in the future.
