Truckers call off strike

Bhubaneswar: The All Odisha Truck Owners’ Association on Wednesday night decided to call off its proposed indefinite strike from midnight of January 16.

“As the state government has fulfilled all the eight demands made by the association, we have decided to call off the agitation,” said Rabi Satpathy, the truck owners’ association.

Besides agreeing to raise the truck fare, the government also assured the association not to engage private firm to issue fitness certificates to trucks, Satpathy said.

The decision of the Association came after an assurance from Commerce and Transport minister Subrat Tarai to look into its 8-point charter of demands.

Above 1 lakh trucks were ready to participate in the proposed strike, Satpathy said.
