Truck vrs goods train in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: The truck owners throughout in Keonjhar district have intensified the stir to press for their demands to re-introduce trucks for transporting iron ore and other minerals. The state government recently banned trucks from the trade and said that iron ore can only be ferried in goods trains.

Truck owners from Joda and Barbil areas along with drivers and helpers today staged rail roko at the Barbil railway station and have threatened to continue rail roko for an indefinite period till the government annuls its unitary decision. Likewise, members of the Joda Truck Owners` Association also staged rail roko at the Banspani railway station.

The railway station at the district headquarter town too was targeted by the truck owners. Several associations of the truck owners in the district have threatened to launch economic blockade in the entire district. However, passengers trains have been exempted.
