Bhubaneswar: Four girl students of a residential tribal school in Rayagada district have accused a teacher of sexually harassing them, prompting the authorities to launch a probe.

"I have received complaints from the girl students who have levelled charges of sexual harassment against one of their teachers," Rayagada District Collector Nitin Bhanudas Jawale said on Wednesday.

The matter is being investigated and if the allegations levelled by the girl students of "Kanyashram" are found true stringent action would be taken against the accused, he said.

"We will not hesitate to initiate strong action, including dismissal of the accused, if the charges are proved," the Collector said.

The girls in their complaints alleged that the assistant teacher had been harassing them sexually for quite some time, creating fear among them.

The teacher was using vulgar language with them and showing obscene gestures, the girls claimed, adding that the accused threatened to oust them from the school if they disclosed the matter to anyone.

The girls said they had fled the school two days ago due to fear before lodging complaints with the district collector.
