Mayurbhanj: As many as 15 girl students of Mukund High School in Morada block of the district today vacated their hostel and marched on foot to lodge their grievances before Mayurbhanj Collector Vineet Bhardwaj. The students wanted to meet and apprise the collector over the problems that they were facing in the hostel.

Notably, the Collector's office was some 50 kms away from their hostel. The students had already covered a distance of 5 kms before district administration officials including Welfare Extension Officer (WEO), District Welfare Officer (DWO), local police and school headmaster stopped them near Jhinkiria Chhak.

The students alleged that they were not given adequate food and drinking water in the hostel. They further alleged that despite repeated complaints, the warden of the hostel did not pay heed to their grievances and instead punished and verbally abused them.

Though the girl students initially refused to return, the officials managed to convince them with assurances to redress their problems at the earliest.
