Rayagada: Hundreds of tribals of Rayagada on Sunday took out a rally and staged demonstration outside the SP’s office demanding CBI enquiry and immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of local tribal leader and former councillor of Rayagada municipality Bhagirathi Mandangi in December 2010.

The members of Adivasi Mahasangha also submitted a memorandum for perusal of the President of India through Rayagada SP Sarvana Vivek M.

They alleged that even though nine years have elapsed since Mandangi was brutally murdered, the culprits are yet to be nabbed. The protesters further threatened to take to streets, if their demand for CBI probe into the case is not accepted by the concerned authorities.

“He (Mandangi) was brutality killed and set on fire. I have been running from pillar to post but he is yet to get justice. Whatever be the medium be it CBI or Crime Branch, we just want immediate arrest of the culprits,” said sister of the deceased, Manjula Miniaka.

On the other hand, Rayagada SDPO Tapan Narayan Rath said the memorandum will be sent to the President through proper channel and steps will be taken as per the direction of the higher authorities.
“They demanded a CBI enquiry into the case. Further action in connection with the case will be taken as per the direction of the higher ups,” informed Rath.

Sources said, Mandangi went missing from Majhighariani Temple on December 1, 2010 and later his charred body was found from Nagabali riverbed in Andhra Pradesh.

The incident triggered protests following which the case was handed over to the Crime Branch for investigation. However, even after nine years, the persons involved in the murder are yet to be arrested.
