Traffic stalls ambulance for 4 hours in Bolangir

Bolangir: A tuberculosis patient from Tepsa village in Kalahandi district today faced a testing four hours when an ambulance carrying him was stuck in a traffic jam on Bolangir-Titlagarh road.

As per reports, the patient identified as Hari Majhi was being carried in the ambulance from Titlagarh hospital to Bolangir district headquarters hospital. However, the ambulance was stuck near Mathakhai temple on NH-26 for four hours.

“We were stuck in the jam for four hours and that’s why we arrived at the hospital late. The jam on the NH-26 was due to buses carrying people to a KALIA scheme programme,” said Rupadhara Majhi, a relative of the patient.

“The patient was referred from Titlagarh to Bolangir. The condition of the patient was serious and he was vomiting blood. There was a jam from Deogaon to Bolangir and the ambulance was stuck in the jam for four hours,” stated Anil Kumar Swain, the ambulance driver.

After the ambulance staff informed the concerned authorities, police came to the rescue of the patient and his relatives and cleared the road for the ambulance.

“Upon receiving information, a police team was sent to the place where the ambulance was stuck. As the ambulance was far behind, we facilitated the smooth movement of the vehicle,” said Srimanta Barik, Bolangir SDPO.

Eyewitnesses said hundreds of buses carrying people to a KALIA Samabesh in Bargarh resulted in traffic snarl on the NH-26.
