Bhubaneswar: In order to enforce new traffic rules under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 and reduce traffic congestion in prime road junctions in the capital city, a new bus bay has been created near Satsang Vihar on the National Highway 16 in Bhubaneswar.

The Commissionerate Traffic Police last night marked a section of NH in the area as a new bus bay to facilitate local, long-route and interstate buses to board or deboard passengers.

"With the new bus bay operating, the two bus stops at Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar would now be bypassed. The buses would climb the flyover near Crown Hotel and stop at Satsang Vihar bypassing the entire city traffic in the midway," said Amaresh Panda, Traffic ACP, Bhubaneswar.

Traffic police is optimistic that the new bus bay will help ease vehicular movement in the busy traffic junctions like Vani Vihar and Acharya Vihar which generally get congested due to movement of heavy vehicles, mainly passenger buses.

However, bus owners association has demanded the administration to put up a permanent facility for the welfare of passengers.

Secretary of Private Bus Owner’s Association, Barada Prasanna Acharya said, “Though we don’t like this move by the Traffic Department, we are forced to support considering the traffic problems at Vani Vihar.”
