Bhubaneswar: The one man judicial commission headed by retired High Court judge A S Naidu has already started probe into the deaths in Cuttack and Khurda districts due to consumption of toxic alcohol and hence the assembly could not discuss the issue in the house. This was stated by excise minister Sharada Nayak today in the assembly in his reply to an adjournment notice for discussion on the toxic alcohol deaths.

The adjournment notice was issued by NCP MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy. The excise minister said that the matter was being investigated by the one-man judicial commission. Members from the treasury bench supported the minister raising point of order.

But the Opposition was hell bent and created ruckus in the assembly over the minister`s reply. The speaker had to adjourn the house several times as the entire

opposition demanding discussion accused the government of running away from discussing the serious issue in the house.

The speaker in his ruling finally said that the matter could not be discussed in the house because of the on-going probe by the judicial commission. Most importantly, the health minister Prasanna Acharya had on January 24 answered questions on the issue from the Opposition benches and the house had discussed the issue for over 30 minutes.
