Tigress Sundari still out of reach of tranquilizing team

Angul: Even after five days, Tigress Sundari continues to remain out of the reach of the tranquilizing team which has failed to capture the big cat despite several attempts.

Today, after receiving information about the tigress, a trap was laid by the forest officials to lure her with a live buffalo as bait. But the tigress did not respond, sources said.

The 2 expert teams from Madhya Pradesh scheduled to arrive today to tranquilize the tigress will be coming on October 29, informed Angul DFO.

On the other hand, Forest and Environment Minister, Bijayshree Routray informed that a decision has been taken to release the tigress at Nandankanan Zoological Park after it is tranquilized and captured.

“Traps have been laid and tranquilizing teams has been positioned at various places. All steps have been taken by the department to ensure that no one is hurt in the process.”

Meanwhile, police have arrested 8 persons in connection with the ransacking and arson at Hatibari beat house and Tikrapara range office during a protest against the alleged attack by the tigress on September 12.

Earlier, the police had arrested 19 persons in connection with violence during a similar protest in Tainsi area under the Satkosia Forest Reserve in Angul.
