Bhadrak: Good news for animal lovers as Royal Bengal Tigress Renuka today gave birth to two melanistic cubs at the Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar.

The tigress gave birth to one cub at 3.40 AM and another at 12 noon in the enclosure no. 33 of the zoo. Both the tigress and her cubs are stated to be normal and are being monitored by the doctors through CCTV cameras, informed the zoo authorities.

Renuka delivered the cubs out of mating with zoo bred tiger Manish around 100 days back, added the authorities.

With the new cubs, the number of tiger population in the zoo has increased to 28 (15 normal, 9 white and 4 melanistic).

Earlier in September, white tigress Vijaya had delivered two cubs including one white tiger and the other a Royal Bengal tiger in the zoo.
