Bhubhaneswar: Ten days after Biju Patnaik international airport here witnessed the take-off of its first international flight, it may experience more flights to global destinations if Ministry of Civil Aviation permits.

The airport authorities here have forwarded a ‘letter of interest’ from Air India which operates its scheduled international flight from here, to the ministry for due consideration.

“After its successful operation from Bhubaneswar, AI has sought permission to fly three more flights from here and we have forwarded the request to the ministry. After getting due approval the flights will start operation,” Bhubaneswar airport director Sharad Kumar said.

“Passengers going to North, West and Middle East can avail the services of these flights,” added Kumar.
The official informed that the operator has sought permission to fly AI-873, AI-473 and AI-669 flights to global destinations.

In last 10 days, more than 500 passengers have flown to abroad taking AI’s scheduled flight, sources said.

At present, AI is operating its flight AI-077 from here on a hub and spoke model, where passengers travel to New Delhi on their way to different international destinations.
