(image) Rourkela: At least three Maoists, including an area commander, were killed on Friday in an encounter between police and Maoists under Bisra police limits in Sundargarh.

According to reports, the encounter took place during a joint combing operation by CRPF jawans and state police in Saranda forest under Bisra police station limit.

The security personnel in retaliation opened fire at the ultras at Akhayatila Nala. The security forces have recovered the bodies of the rebels. One has them has been identified as Mohd Musleem, area commander of Maoists in Digha area in Jharkhand.

The police has also seized a rifle, pistol, large quantity of cartridges from the spot. The security forces have launched a combing operation in the area
