In a tragic incident, at least three women were killed, and three others were critically injured after a wild elephant attacked a group of villagers at Patapura forest in Odisha's Dhenkanal on Tuesday.
As per reports, some residents of Lochapali village had entered the forest to collect firewood when they were suddenly attacked by a tusker. The unexpected assault led to chaos, resulting in multiple casualties.
Three women died on the spot due to the elephant attack, while three others sustained serious injuries. The injured victims were immediately rushed to the nearest medical facility, where they are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is stated to be critical.
Forest and local administration officials reached the spot after receiving information and initiated necessary measures.

The incident has triggered panic and grief in the surrounding villages, highlighting the growing concern over human-elephant conflict in forest-adjacent areas of the district.
Earlier in December, a woman was killed, and her husband and mother were critically injured after a herd of elephants attacked their home in Chahakapara under Bender panchayat of Khaprakhol police station limits in Bolangir district.
