Rourkela: Three persons were killed when their motorbike had a head-on collision with a speeding truck near Jampalli along state highway-10, about 45 km from here today. Police said the deceased were identified as Bijay Lakra (32), Diba Lakra (38) of Malupada village and Sanjay Badai (28) of Bhangapada near Rajgangpur.
All three were returning to their villages by a bike after attending a marriage function at Rajgangpur when a iron ore laden truck hit them head-on. Meanwhile, as soon as the news of the accident spread, irate pubic blocked the state highway for over two hours and did not allow the police to remove the body for post mortem.
Senior police officers and the local tehsildar reached the spot and persuaded the public to lift the blockade which was lifted after announcement of a compensation Rs 5,000 from district red cross society and Rs 5,000 each from the truck owners` association. The driver of the truck had fled the scene leaving the vehicle at the accident site. Bodies were sent for post- mortem.
