Three Cops Injured In Villagers’ Attack In Odisha
Balasore: Three police constables were allegedly attacked and detained by the villagers while attempting to arrest a fraud-accused youth at Jhuriapatna village under Oupada Police limits in Balasore district last night.
According to sources, one Ajay Mallick, a resident of Jhuriapatna had cracked a deal with Sadananda Sahoo of Rourkela to sell a piece of land and also taken Rs 10 lakh from him. However, Mallick has neither given the land nor returned money to Sahoo.
Acting on an FIR lodged against Mallick at Nilagiri Police Station in connection with the matter, a team of local ASI and some constables of the police reached Jhuriapatna to arrest Mallick yesterday. However the villagers opposed the arrest and instead attacked the police team which helped Mallick in fleeing the spot.
Informed, Nilagiri IIC rushed to the spot and rescued the police personnel held captive by the villagers. Meanwhile, Mallick’s brother-in-law Mina Mallick has been arrested for attacking the police team. Further investigation in connection with the case is underway.
