Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, three B.Tech students of state government-run engineering college met their watery grave in a dam near Deras under Chandaka police limits here on Monday.

The deceased identified as Satyajit Mishra, Aman Jain and Chand Kishore Majhi hailed from Bhubaneswar, Kesinga and Balasore respectively.

According to reports, nine students- seven B.Tech and two M.Tech students- of Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar had been to Jhumka dam at around 10 a.m. today.

But unfortunately six students who had ventured into the water slipped into the deep waters of the dam. While three of them were rescued by two other students who knew swimming, the three second year students drowned.

Later, the fire department was pressed into service to fish the bodies out of the dam, but only after putting an effort for five long hours.

The bodies were first rushed to SUM Hospital and then sent for a post mortem.
