Three arrested for possessing illegal firearms in Odisha’s Rourkela, 35 live bullets seized

At least three persons were arrested on Tuesday for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition in Rourkela. As many as 35 live bullets were also seized from their possession.

As per reports, the arrests were made from different police station areas of Rourkela. However, the motive behind keeping the illegal firearms is yet to be ascertained. 

Police are investigating whether the weapons were intended to be used for any criminal activity.

"Rourkela Police has been conducting raids on illegal firearms throughout the year. Acting on reliable information, Rourkela police conducted the raid and arrested three persons for possessing illegal firearms. Middlemen from Nagaland were arranging illegal firearms for them. Rourkela SP is in touch with the Nagaland administration for an investigation into the incident. Necessary actions will be taken against the culprits. We thank the Rourkela police for the good work. We are hopeful that Rourkela police will continue the good work to ensure a violence-free society," said Western Range DIG Brijesh Roy.

"We urge persons with illegal firearms having valid license to inform the police. Otherwise, actions will be taken against them," he added.
