Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP General Secretary, Lekhashree Samantsinghar came down heavily again on the ruling BJD government in Odisha for not handing over the Smitarani death probe to the CBI.

In a press conference today, Lekhashree reiterated her party's demand for a CBI probe into the death of Haridaspur Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO), Smitarani Biswal. She alleged, "We don't trust the wicked mind of Jajpur SP and the third floor is influencing the probe."

"It's been two and a half months since the lady PEO was killed by the leaders of BJD on the very birthday of Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik i.e October 16, 2019 and there hasn't been any headway in the case," alleged Lekhashree.

"Police have filed a 2000-page charge-sheet against the main accused, Rupesh Bhadra without taking him on remand even for a single day. All asphyxiations cannot be attributed to suicide. So police's claim that Smitarani committed suicide is a fallacy," she said.

"A powerful person is behind this fiasco. This case is the very reason that the then DG of Police BK Sharma was removed from his position," alleged Lekhashree.

Leveling serious charges on some of the BJD MLAs, Lekhashree said that the arrested accused, Rupesh Bhadra is being treated like a VIP inside the jail on the directions of Jajpur MLA Pranab Prakash Das (Bobby Das) and Dharmashala MLA Pranab Balabantaray.

Meanwhile, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha member, Prashant Nanda refuted her allegations and advised her to raise issues affecting the common man. "I think BJP is lost. They should respect the mandate people have accorded them both at the Center and in Odisha and raise relevant issues," he said.
