Pipli/Cuttack: The crime branch police today arrested accused number three in the Pipli gaag rape case Premananda Nayak from village Orkal near Pipli. The medical examination of Premananda has been conducted and he would be produced in the court on Wednesday, crime branch police said.

On the other hand, the First Class Judicial Magistrate of Pipli today allowed the crime branch investigating squad to take Guna Swain, accused number two, on a two-day remand for further questioning. The crime branch on Tuesday had taken the main accused Prashant Pradhan on a two-day remand as well. Three accuseds have been arrested within a short span of three days after the crime branch released the photographs of the four accuseds in the gang rape case. Only one accused Abua Pradhan is still at large.

Meanwhile, there has been no noticeable improvement in the condition of the victim in the SCB medical in Cuttack. But the family members of the victim have yet again expressed their unwillingness to shift her to the AIIMS in New Delhi for better treatment. The family members have given it in writing to the Pipli tehsildar as per the direction of the Odisha High Court.

A team of FMT experts examining the accuseds today accompanied the crime branch sleuths to the spot where the victim was allegedly gang rape to collect scientific evidence.
