Bhubaneswar: The political epicentre in the state has suddenly shifted to Umerkote with the Chief Election Comissioner announcing the schedule for the by-poll necessitated due to the death of BJD MLA Jagabandhu Majhi. While the main opposition party, the Congrees claims that it will be able to snatch the constituency from the BJD, the ruling party rubbbishing it says that the Congress candidate might forefeight the deposit.

The BJP, of course, has been the front runner in announcing the name of its candidate. The party has put up Dharmu Ganda in the fray.

Senior Congress leader and Odisha in-charge Jagdish Tytler who was on a two-day state visit said that his party will become the clear winner. For both Jagdish Tytler and Niranjan Pattnaik, the newly appointed PCC chief, Umerkote by-election is a sort of prestige issue. The core committee of party today held a meeting in the capital to deliberate on the candidate selection. Later, Tytler told the media that the name of the candidate will be announced by November 8 consultation with the high command.
