The festival of colours splashes the state
Bhubaneswar: The state is draped in the festival of colours Holi or Dola Yatra. On Saturday, people across the state celebrated the joyous occasion of Dola Yatra in unison with gaiety.
The devotees placed idols of Radha-Krishna on decorated palanquins and took out processions. They also offered prayers on this special day of Dol Purnima which is celebrated on a full moon day.
Though, the festival of colors Holi will be celebrated on Sunday, people are already engaged in pre celebration bash in the state. On this festival of fun and frolic, people throw colours at one another. As the day progresses, youngsters move around in groups, hurling water balloons, splashing water colors and smearing one another with `abir` (dry colors).
In western Orissa, people celebrated Gundikhai festival today and offered fruits to their ‘Ishta Deva’ (worshipper’s preferred divinity). Similarly in Bolangir people from yadav community celebrated Holi today. They worshipped lord Krishna and poured abir at each other.
On the other hand, make-shift shops dealing with Holi related items made a good business as people shopped Holi materials for tomorrow’s occasion. Similar was the scene at sweet shops too. Huge rush was seen at various sweet shops in the twin cities.
Meanwhile, the commissionerate police here made certain arrangements for incident free celebrations. The cops would be keeping a strict vigil on rogue elements and trouble makers.
This time, police won’t fine the law breakers rather they would be arrested. The offences include:
Overspeeding and dangerous driving
Troublemakers causing disharmony or inconvenience to others
Overloading of pillion riders beyond permitted limits
Besides, police personnel have been deployed here across the city for the safety and security of citizens.
