Tension in G.Udaygiri after man killed in hit-and-run case

Kandhamal: Vehicular movement between G.Udaygiri and Baliguda of Kandhamal district came to a grinding halt for couple of hours on Monday morning after locals of Kanabagiri village took to streets protesting death of a nearby villager in a hit-and-run case.

Locals alleged that the deceased Bighnaraj Pradhan of Kataraganda village in the district was returning home late on Sunday night when an unknown vehicle ran over him near Kanabagiri and fled the spot.

Passersby witnessed the mutilated body lying near the road in the morning and informed the nearby villagers.

Following the incident, hundreds of residents blocked the main road demanding compensation for the family of the deceased and immediate arrest of the culprit.

Later, G.Udaygiri Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Jay Krushna Behera along with a police team rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the irate mob following which the protest was called off.

Meanwhile, police have registered an unnatural death case into the incident and started an investigation to identify the vehicle and the driver.
