Cuttack: Tension mounted in Nuasahi slum near Petanal, CDA following the slum demolition drive by the district administration on Tuesday. More than 150 residents of the area were arrested by the police when they tried to stop the drive by sleeping before the bulldozers.

Barang Tehsildar had issued a notice to evict the 40-year old slum by June 12 to make way for the construction of a road. When the demolition squad approached the area today morning, locals protested the drive by obstructing their work. The locals alleged that the drive was illegal since they had been staying in the area for the past 40 years. To avoid any untoward incident the district administration has deployed nine platoons of police in the area.
