Tension erupts over death of two students in Rourkela
Rourkela: A day after two students died in Saranagari area of Rourkela after being hit by a speeding mini-truck, enraged locals today staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the families of the victims and arrest of the accused driver.
According to sources, the two students were returning home after watching the Republic Day celebrations in the city when they were hit by the mini-truck. Both of them reportedly died on the spot.
To avoid any untoward situation, three platoons of police force were deployed in the area following the public outrage over the deaths.
On the other hand, Raghunathpali MLA Subrat Tarai met the locals and tried to pacify the situation.
Later, the road blockade was removed after the agitators were assured that compensation will be given to the kin of the deceased, sources added.
In a similar incident, public outrage was witnessed today on the Cuttack-Paradip road near Tarajanga in Jagatsinghpur over the death of a former sarpanch.
