Tension erupts during Kali Puja immersion in Cuttack

Tension flared high in Cuttack during the Kali Puja idol immersion procession on Friday, leading to chaos near Chandini Chowk. According to reports, the disturbance broke out while the Bakharabad Medha (tableau) was proceeding towards the immersion site.

The unrest reportedly began following allegations of police assault, which sparked outrage among locals and participants. As a result, the Bakharabad Medha procession was halted midway, creating heavy traffic congestion and panic in the area. However, after a brief delay, the immersion procession proceeded without any untoward incident, informed sources.

So far, no official statement has been issued by the police regarding the incident. Security forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation and restore order in the locality.

Heavy security deployment

To ensure a smooth and safe immersion, the Cuttack Police made elaborate security arrangements. Heavy police deployment has been made in place across key routes, with personnel monitoring the procession from narrow lanes to major intersections. Officers maintained strict surveillance and guided the crowds to prevent congestion or mishaps.

Around 50 platoons of security forces have been posted to maintain peace and order during the festivities. Drones and CCTV cameras are also deployed in every lane to keep an eye on the situation.

Traffic restrictions

To ensure public safety and convenience during the immersion ceremony, the Cuttack UPD imposed a temporary ban on vehicle movement on several key routes in and around the city from 7.00 AM on October 24 until the procession concludes on October 25.

During the above-mentioned period, no vehicles shall be allowed to ply on the following routes, and traffic will be diverted through adjacent roads.
