Bhubaneswar/Puri: Temples across Odisha were decked up to mark the birth of Lord Krishna which is celebrated as Janmashtami. Special arrangements have been made by temple authorities across the state for the celebrations today.

As per the mythology, Lord Shri Krishna was born on the auspicious day of Bhadrav Krushna pakhya on Astami as the son of Devaki and Basudeva in Mathura.

Devotees since early morning made beelines before Ram Mandir and ISKCON temple in Bhubaneswar to offer prayers on the auspicious day.

The ISCKON authorities have made special arrangements for the smooth darshan of the devotees.

"Three days after the Rath Yatra, we had started the preparations for Janmashtami. We have overcome the interior problems and are fully prepared for Janmashtami celebrations" said the state Public Relation Officer (PRO) of ISCKON Radhakanta Das.

"Government is also providing help in every step. The city engineer, city health officer and the Mayor is monitoring the situation. Adequate security arrangements have been made by Commissionerate police for the security of the devotees", Das added.

Special arrangements have also been made at Puri Srimandir for the Janmashtami celebrations. As per sources, the birth rituals will be conducted between 5.30pm and 10.30pm tonight.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda greeted the people on the occasion of auspicious Janmashtami.
